VISION
The Feria del Libro Oregon Book Fair is dedicated to celebrating literature, art, and diverse voices, building a cultural bridge between languages and communities. Our event honors the achievements of the Spanish speaking community in Oregon and beyond while embracing the richness of English, Spanish, and Indigenous languages in storytelling.
We strive to cultivate cultural exchange, promote literacy, and ignite a passion for storytelling and the arts—creating an inclusive space where literature and creativity unite people across backgrounds.

GRAND OPENING CEREMONY

Master of Ceremony
10:00 - 11:00 AM
¡Official Opening of the Feria del Libro Oregon Book Fair! We are honored to kick off this literary celebration with the warm presentation of our beloved master of ceremonies, Antonio Sánchez. The opening will be full of rhythm and color with a special presentation of Los Colores de América, followed by the moving vocal performance of Gemanereida, whose voice will touch the soul of the audience. We will feature a special message from our official sponsor, Early Start Preschool & Child Care Center, in recognition of their valuable commitment to education and culture, also the mexican publishing house Fondo de Cultura Económica will share a special message. . To close with strength and pride, we will pay tribute to our roots with the powerful Aztec Dance by the group Ameyalmazatl Citlaltonal.
MAIN THEATER

11:00 - 11:10 AM
Valentina Ortiz, an international storyteller, will be the master of ceremonies at the Main Theater. A storyteller of ancient and modern Mexico, she has traveled to numerous countries bringing Latin American traditions to audiences of all ages. She will present a variety of writers, children's stories, poetry, and personal and business inspirational stories, all highlighting the cultural and emotional richness of our communities.

Using children's stories to build social and emotional vocabulary with a focus on including neurodivergent students.

In this presentation, Alexandra will share the central message of her book, "Las 6 Reglas de Ámbar." She will speak from her personal journey of transformation and how each rule helped her rebuild herself, with the intention of inspiring other women to reconnect with their inner strength and take steps toward their dreams.

The Feria de Libro Oregon Book Fair welcomes four outstanding Oregon poets, who will share with attendees’ important considerations when poets write prose, traditional, and nontraditional poetry. Each poet will share a quote with panel discussion to follow. At the end of each discussion the sponsoring poet will share a poem or two. Most importantly, at the end of the panel discussion time will be allocated for audience questions. The panel discussion will be moderated by one of Oregon’s premier poets, Emmett Wheatfall.

This presentation reflects on William's creative process and his role as a visual artist with over 25 years of professional experience. It addresses his work in schools through visual arts teaching and his focus on public art, particularly mural projects in various locations throughout Oregon.

To conclude the event, we will recognize the Oregon Book Fair planning committee.

Herlin Alvarez, writer, certified director, and founder of Early Start Preschool and Child Care Center, honors us as the master of ceremonies for the Young Readers Zone, a space dedicated to reading and discovery. Driven by her passion for early education and high-quality childcare, Herlin will lead presentations by local, national, and international writers, who will perform readings of their own works every 30 minutes in a multilingual (Spanish, English, and Indigenous languages) and inspirational setting.
LIVE READING ZONE

The story follows Frida, a shoe-loving caterpillar, as she discovers the true beauty of life through her colorful transformation. Every day, Frida experiences a new color, filling her world with vibrant hues that will captivate young readers.

YOUNG CREATORS ZONE

The ABC Lottery, designed by Hampton Rodrígues in collaboration with Capaces Leadership Institute as part of a Literacy Enhancement Grant from the Department of Early Literacy and Care of the Oregon Department of Education. This innovative lottery encourages reading and alphabet learning for young readers. Bilingual and bicultural, the game combines art, education, and fun to strengthen language skills in English and Spanish.

Reading comprehension activity where, through the use of puzzles, a positive association with reading will be fostered. Through play, participants will explore the children's books Amaya Changes House and Niño Migrante, developing comprehension skills and enjoying the world of stories.

This creativity workshop is designed to inspire young readers to write their first book. Led by teacher Herlin Álvarez of the Early Starter Preschool and Child Care Center, the event fosters children's imagination and love of writing, giving them the tools to create their own stories in a fun and educational way.

Create your own leather wallet. Community and Cultural Heritage, together with Eugene Arte Latino, present this workshop led by Jessica Zapata, where participants will learn to create a leather wallet using basic sewing and stamping techniques. This is a unique opportunity to develop artisanal skills while designing a personalized accessory.

Create Your Magic Bookmark! Teachers Herlin Álvarez and Mildred López from Early Starter Preschool and Child Care Center will be leading a workshop to encourage art and creativity in children. During this workshop, children will design their own bookmark, which they can use at the book fair. Through this activity, children will develop skills in the use of art materials, fine motor coordination, creative expression, and teamwork, while having fun creating their unique design.

The "Tree of Life" cultural workshop fuses the traditions of Metepec, State of Mexico, with the creativity and natural environment of Oregon. Participants will learn about this craft and customize their own version of the Tree of Life, a symbol that represents the connection between living beings and the harmony of nature.
This workshop promotes an ancient tradition and encourages creativity, family and community unity, and an appreciation for folk art in a multicultural environment.

Led by Herlin Álvarez and Mildred López of Early Starter Preschool and Child Care Center, this workshop offers children a unique opportunity to explore the world of art while learning and having fun. Little ones will have the chance to color while developing cognitive, fine motor, and creativity skills. Through educational and colorful activities, children will be able to express their imaginations and learn basic concepts such as shapes, numbers, letters, and much more, all while enjoying a colorful journey.
